Odds Glossary

Odds is a form to expressing a probability expressed in the form of the potential for something to happen in front of it from happening. For example, the chances of getting a six in the launch of a die is a 16% (1 / 6 * 100). This same probability would be expressed at Odds 1:5 or 1 to 5. Of every 6 launches, 1 will be a six, while in the other 5 not. We can express the odds conversely, as the probability that something will not happen in front of that happening. In the example above 5:1 or 5 to 1. This form is commonly used in poker, as in most aspects of the game (gambling, etc. ...).

Outs. An out is each one of the possible cards that complete our hand. For example, with a pair(couple) in hand, we have 2 outs to complete three of a kind..

Gutshot. Whne we need one inside cards to complete a stragiht (we only have 4 outs). For example flop 89A, with 56 in hand. A 7 gives us the straight..

Draw. We Talk about 'a draw' when we are waiting to see the following card to complete our game..

Drawing dead. When we need a card to hit a draw but this draw will not win if you complete it. For example: Drawing to make a straight against a player who already has a flush.

Drawing hand. A poker player is drawing if he has a hand that is incomplete and needs further cards to become valuable. For example to complete a straight or flush.

Free card. A free card refers to seeing the turn or river card without having to make/call a bet

Backdoor. When a draw need two remaining cards to make a hand at turn or river. For example Backdoor Flush back door straigh, back door full house...

Pot equity. Pot equity is your expected value from the pot. Suppose you have a 30% chance to win the pot. There is $100 in the pot. Thus, your pot equity is $30 (.30 *100).
